2525 Drop-Shoulder Hoodie: Materials and Assembly Checks

Prepare the pocket and rib bands, then make a hood-marking checklist for 2525. The baseline here is a plain hood opening without a drawcord.

Fabric quantities and skills

2525 is listed as intermediate, with XS–4XL in the detailed chart. Choose the specified sweatshirt knit and suitable rib. Practise a stretch seam and band attachment on scraps before handling the full garment.

Fabric reference: 160 cm width; about 1.4 m main fabric and 0.3 m secondary fabric. The table does not name the largest size used for this estimate. Record your chosen size, usable width after preparation, shrinkage and measured layout length before buying. Include any one-way print requirement. The 2525 product chart displays the reference quantities beside the measurements.

Test the rib separately for stretch and recovery. Confirm the allowances and cutting quantities on the pieces.

Mark the hood before cutting

The preparation notes specify two hood layers and a 3 cm front overlap. The reviewed M cutting pages show opening marks, but the written information does not establish a unique measuring datum or left-over-right order. A review of the M cutting file and the supplied reference images has not resolved that overlap. The missing detail must show:

  • Centre-front neckline mark: ___
  • Overlap measurement starts at: ___; ends at: ___
  • Layer on top as worn: ___
  • Outer hood neckline joins: ___; inner layer finishes at: ___

If an entry is missing, send the hood and neckline pieces with your selected size through account messages. Keep the hood uncut until the overlap detail is supplied. The no-cord version omits eyelets and a drawcord channel; it still needs the original hood size and overlap.

Finish the pocket while the front is flat

Transfer the pocket position. Finish the curved hand openings, press the other edges into position and baste the pocket to the front. Compare its distance from centre front on both sides.

Stitch the attachment edges, leaving the hand openings free. Reinforce their ends as the pattern directs. Lay the front flat afterward and look for pulling or ripples around the pocket.

Join the body and sleeves

Join the shoulders, attach the sleeves flat, then close each side and underarm in one continuous seam. On 2525, the single sleeve notch matches the front, the double notch the back and the middle mark the shoulder.

Match the underarm intersection before sewing. If a sleeve does not match, compare the size, seam lines and notches before stretching either piece.

Baste the confirmed hood arrangement

Once the hood record is complete, join the outer and inner hood at their designated seams and finish the plain opening. Check that the layers lie together without twisting. Baste the neckline with back centre and the confirmed overlap marks matched. Try the hood before permanently finishing that seam.

Add the rib bands

Join each cuff and the hem band into a loop, then fold lengthwise with wrong sides together. Mark matching sections on each band and its garment edge. Align both band raw edges with the garment edge and sew between the marks, stretching the band evenly while keeping the body fabric relaxed.

Check the seam before topstitching. The band should recover when released. If the edge waves, compare the band length, recovery and handling on a sample before altering the finished garment.

Frequently asked questions

What should I lay out first on narrower fabric?

Start with the largest hood and body pieces, keeping the required grain and print direction. Then fit the smaller pieces around them. Measure the completed layout at your usable width to estimate a new quantity.

Why does the hem stay stretched after sewing?

Compare an unsewn rib sample with the attached band. Check recovery first, then whether the body was stretched during sewing and whether the band length matches the selected size.
