Prepare the materials
2521 covers XS–4XL and calls for a light- to medium-weight opaque, non-stretch woven. The reference is 2.3 m at 140 cm width, described as a largest-size amount without naming that size beside it. Compare your selected layout with the product chart, including shrinkage and directional prints.
The source materials list gives one button and a total of about 1 m of 0.6 cm elastic. It does not allocate that metre between uses. The neckline step names an elastic button loop; the waist notes mention both elastic and a drawcord without a complete route. Record their types and quantities separately once confirmed. Do not count 1 m for each use or treat a drawcord and elastic as interchangeable.
Record the waist arrangement before cutting
Fill in these fields from a complete 2521 waist detail:
- Layers forming the channel: ___
- Entry position and edge finish: ___
- Channel stitching lines and clear internal width: ___
- Elastic route and anchors: ___; separate drawcord route and ends: ___
- Allowances that must stay clear: ___
The brief notes mention a front opening and stitching about 1 cm below the waist, but leave the complete section and end treatment unclear. Send the waist pieces and these fields through account messages if your file lacks that detail. Keep the access hole uncut and the waist layers open until it is supplied.
Prepare the collar and front V
Mark the collar's outer and attachment edges. Sew and turn the outer edges, keeping the attachment edge free. Compare the two ends.
Join the back yoke and shoulders in the supplied sequence. Mark the V's stitching point and test the loop with the actual button. Baste the collar and loop at their marks before enclosing the neckline with the facing. Inspect the V seam before clipping the allowance as required, keeping the stitches intact.
Turn and press the facing. Close the button and loop to check that neither side of the V is pulled higher.
Check the sleeve openings
Confirm the cuff opening and its matching sleeve marks in the pattern. Baste both cuffs and check that each hand passes through comfortably before closing the last accessible edge.
Label the two skirt hems
Mark each finished hemline on the paper pieces and write which hem is meant to show. Assemble the skirts separately, keeping the layer names, centres and side seams visible.
After the waist arrangement is confirmed and basted, hang the layers together. Compare centres and side seams, then try the dress on before hemming. Check that the layers move freely when you sit and walk. Confirm the intended lengths before trimming either one.
Check the assembled dress
With the confirmed waist arrangement temporarily secured, check reaching, sitting and the V opening. Test the channel for catching or twisting while it remains accessible. Finish each skirt hem separately and check their movement again.
Frequently asked questions
What if my hand cannot pass through the cuff?
Compare the cuff size, allowance and opening marks with the matching sleeve. Check both sides before altering either one, and test any adjustment while the opening remains accessible.
Why do the skirt layers catch each other?
Check for a twist at the waist, trapped allowances and a seam that accidentally joins the layers. Then compare their intended lengths and the friction between the two fabrics.
